The brief was simple: a full flower bed with plenty of color. Something cheerful to come home to, with enough variety to keep the planting interesting as the seasons changed.
We cleared the existing planting and prepared the bed for a fresh start. The design brings together ornamental kale, snapdragons, violas, dusty miller, and small groups of golden carex, with different heights and textures giving each part of the planting a role.
The kale gives the bed its larger shapes and richly colored foliage. Snapdragons add upright flowers, while mixed violas carry color through the lower planting. Silver dusty miller breaks up the deeper tones, and golden carex adds a contrasting, grassy texture in small clusters.
Repetition keeps that variety feeling connected. The plants were arranged in groups and layers so the bed reads as a whole, with details to enjoy when you get closer.
The planting is complete, with two follow-up maintenance visits included between the fall installation and spring changeover. A finished bed is a good beginning. Helping it settle in is part of the work, too.
