The short version
The only personal information we have is what you send us: an email, or the Start a Project form when it is running (it is switched off at the moment). We use it to talk to you about your project. We don’t sell it, rent it, or hand it to advertisers, and if you ask us to delete it, we will.
What we collect
When the form is running, it asks for:
- your name, email address, and city or ZIP code;
- a description of your space and what you’d like to change;
- optionally: a phone number, how you’d prefer to be reached, whether it’s a home or business, a sense of scope and timing, how you heard about us, and up to two photos of the space;
- if you ask us to email you a porch quiz result: your email address, the answers you gave, and the list we sent you.
- if you arrived from a link we shared (say, our Instagram bio), the form quietly notes which link brought you. That helps us know where people find us, and nothing more.
Like nearly every website, the company that hosts this site keeps routine server logs (IP addresses, pages requested) for security and operations. That is Cloudflare.
What we do with it
We read what you send, look at your photos, and get back to you about ideas, timing, and pricing. That’s the entire use. An email comes straight to the two of us.
When the Start a Project form is running, a submission passes through Cloudflare, which hosts this site, and lands in our own Google Workspace account: the details are written to a spreadsheet, any photos go to a private folder in Google Drive, and we get an email telling us it arrived. Both companies hold it for us, and nobody else sees it. The form is switched off today, so no submission is going anywhere at the moment.
Photos you send are used to plan your project. If we’d ever like to photograph a finished installation at your home or business for our portfolio, we ask you first. That permission is never assumed from a form submission.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages people visit and how they found us, the kind of counting that tells us whether the guides are useful. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this. We don’t use the data to identify you, and we don’t run advertising or tracking pixels from anyone else. If you block analytics cookies, everything on this site still works.
One thing stored in your browser
If you switch on high-contrast mode in the footer, that preference is saved in your own browser’s storage so the site remembers it next time. It never leaves your device and we can’t see it.
What we will never do
- Sell or rent your information to anyone.
- Add you to a mailing list you didn’t ask for.
- Publish photos of your home or business without asking you first.
- Ask for payment details through this website. It has no store.
Your choices
Want to know what we have, correct it, or have it deleted? Send us a note from the contact page and we’ll take care of it. We keep project submissions only as long as they’re useful for working together.
Children
This site is meant for adults planning plant projects, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If how the site works changes (say, we add a way to book consultations), this page changes with it, and the date at the top tells you when.
Questions about any of this? Ask us. A person answers, because a person is all there is. Porch View Plants is based in lovely Greenville, SC.
