- Light
- anything from low light to bright light. It genuinely does not mind, though it grows faster in a bright spot. Outdoors, keep it out of hot afternoon sun
- Water
- let the soil dry out completely, then water sparingly: every few weeks in summer, less in winter. Overwatering is the only reliable way to kill one
- Toxicity
- toxic to dogs and cats (ASPCA): saponins cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Also mildly poisonous to people (NC State Extension, low severity)
Toxicity confirmed against ASPCA Animal Poison Control; NC State Extension Plant Toolbox.
