- Light
- as much bright indirect light as you can find, ideally right beside a window. This is not a low-light plant, whatever the shop told you
- Water
- let the top two inches dry, then water until it runs out of the bottom. Do not move it once it is happy. It drops leaves in protest at drafts, radiators and relocation
- Toxicity
- toxic to dogs, cats and horses. The ASPCA lists the fig genus (Ficus) rather than this species by name: the sap contains ficin and psoralen (ficusin) and causes gastrointestinal and skin irritation. NC State Extension lists it as poisonous to people (low severity)
Toxicity confirmed against ASPCA Animal Poison Control (Ficus, genus listing); NC State Extension Plant Toolbox.
